Treasure the Journey…

In the Yoruba language, “irun ni iyi obirin,” means the hair is the crown of a woman. Your hair is your crowning glory as it represents your most authentic self and reflects your personality and identity.

My hair journey started with me twisting and turning my head as my mom styled my hair. While growing up in Nigeria, I remember always getting agitated when my mom tried to braid my hair. My mother turned to professionals so she wouldn’t have to see me cry. I always looked forward to going to the hair shop because it was a great “mommy and me” time for my mother and me. It was our spa day.

After moving to America, going to the hair shops produced a crippling nostalgic feeling because I didn’t have my mother with me. Nonetheless, I was still intrigued by the art of braiding and execution of other protective styles. While in high school, I assisted a family friend who was  a traveling stylist to make extra cash. A few years later, I became a broke college student (we all remember those days). I decided to brush up on my skills. So, I practiced with my three cousins who were also in college as well. They were my models. Soon, I started booking clients. After a couple of years, I secured a job at the only black owned beauty supply and hair shop close to my school. There, I perfected my skills and added more skills to my arsenal.

After years of adorning the heads of many close family and friends, along with over 5 years of experience in the salon industry, it was time to expand my impact. Olori Hair was born in February 2021 as a venture to make as many men and women see the beauty in their tresses. Olori in my native language means queen, and I hope to make you feel like one as I help you recognize that you’re royalty with every style and expression you allow me to adorn you with.
